Caregiver Services: Knowing When To Seek Extra Help

Recognizing the Signs:

  • Inability to recall physician’s advice and orders
  • Forgetting to take medications or taking them improperly
  • Continuous and repetitious seeking of support for same issues
  • Inability to eat properly, prepare or obtain food
  • Development of a medical crisis that threatens independence, i.e. broken hip
  • Increasing clutter/lack of adequate housekeeping
  • A loss of driving privileges
  • Over-reliance on neighbors and acquaintances for help and companionship
  • A recent history of falls or other mishaps in the home
  • Repeated hospitalizations and failed outpatient treatment plans
  • Inability to manage simple activities of daily living, i.e. grooming or laundry
  • Appearance of “helpful friends” who pry into financial and personal matters
  • Purchases of unnecessary goods or services in response to solicitations
