Caregiver Services: Knowing When To Seek Extra Help
Recognizing the Signs:
- Inability to recall physician’s advice and orders
- Forgetting to take medications or taking them improperly
- Continuous and repetitious seeking of support for same issues
- Inability to eat properly, prepare or obtain food
- Development of a medical crisis that threatens independence, i.e. broken hip
- Increasing clutter/lack of adequate housekeeping
- A loss of driving privileges
- Over-reliance on neighbors and acquaintances for help and companionship
- A recent history of falls or other mishaps in the home
- Repeated hospitalizations and failed outpatient treatment plans
- Inability to manage simple activities of daily living, i.e. grooming or laundry
- Appearance of “helpful friends” who pry into financial and personal matters
- Purchases of unnecessary goods or services in response to solicitations
