A Hero in Home Care: Angela Hawkins saves a life

A Caregiver Who Saved a Life

Some caregivers do more than provide daily support. Some save lives.

Angela Hawkins, a caregiver with Arosa, did exactly that. When her client became unresponsive during one of her shifts, Angela acted immediately — performing CPR until paramedics arrived. Her quick thinking made all the difference.

Meet Angela’s Client

Angela’s client is a 50-year-old man who has lived with severe epilepsy since childhood. He experiences two to three seizures daily, each lasting up to a minute. He is also nonverbal, non-ambulatory due to Cerebral Palsy, and has an intellectual disability. His mother serves as his primary caregiver and has relied on Angela’s support to help care for her son.

Who Is Angela Hawkins?

Angela has been a caregiver for nearly two decades and has been with Arosa since 2019. At Arosa’s LA office, she has been recognized as Employee of the Month for her dependability and the quality of care she delivers. Those who know her describe her as compassionate, detail-oriented, thoughtful, and dedicated.

For Angela, caregiving is not just a job. It is a calling.

The Moment That Changed Everything

In September, Angela arrived for her shift and noticed her client was unresponsive. She did not wait. She immediately began CPR, retrieving a mouth guard from her car to perform it safely and correctly. She continued without stopping until paramedics arrived at the home.

Her composure and preparation were critical. Her client survived.

The impact of Angela’s actions extended far beyond that single moment. For her client’s mother, it was everything.

“I knew we were lucky to be paired with Angela a few days after meeting her. But I didn’t know how lucky until my son’s illness took a sudden turn for the worse. I can’t say enough about her profession and compassion. Without her that day, my son would not be on the road to recovery.”

The Heart of Arosa Caregiving

Angela’s story reflects what Arosa strives for every day — caregivers who are not only skilled, but deeply committed to the people in their care.

Her actions in that critical moment remind us that caregivers are often the unsung heroes in our communities. They show up, stay prepared, and rise to the occasion when it matters most.

We are proud to have Angela on our team — and grateful for the life she saved.
